Firm Principal Addresses Architecture Students

Noelker and Hull Associates, Inc.’s (Noelker and Hull) principal of healthcare Bruce Brooks, AIA, was featured on a recent episode of Ask an Architect (#askanarchitect), a video web series of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) organization, to share his view into the specialized field of healthcare architecture.

Brooks was interviewed by Nick Serfass, AIA, CAE, Executive Director of AIAS, and former architectural intern under Brooks. Through the discussion, Brooks shared his passion for healthcare design and the importance it plays in society, and the skills today’s students need to succeed in the industry.

”I went into healthcare architecture to make a difference,” Brooks explained. ”I was encouraged by the opportunity to add value to the overall equation. I have focused my career on contributing to the industry through solid architectural design, thinking, planning, and programming.”

To that he added a challenge to recent graduates of the audience. “Consider what you are going to be good at and reflect on what your specialty will be,” noting that the industry is looking for employees “who can think on their feet, formulate challenges and define them, and have the ability and willingness to learn.”

Brooks leads Noelker and Hull’s Richmond, Virginia office, and has worked extensively with healthcare clients throughout Richmond and Virginia. He holds a bachelor of architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is licensed to practice in four states.
