Caroline County Public Schools renovated Colonel Richardson Middle School in Federalsburg, Maryland, to provide a system and life safety upgrade. The project reallocated spaces within the building to reflect changing use patterns. Site work included reconfiguration of vehicular circulation to separate bus and automobile traffic. Planning took into consideration future development at the neighboring Colonel Richardson High School. The HVAC system was converted to a geothermal heat pump system using a shared wellfield, configured so that it could be expanded for use by the high school.
