The Pennsylvania State University’s Mont Alto campus, located in south central Pennsylvania, converted Conklin Hall, a condemned dormitory, into a new student lounge and activity center with space devoted to study rooms, student conference areas, and a new campus health center. The building functions as a new campus front door by providing a new admissions office and admissions waiting area at the head of a completely rebuilt central staircase. The design was done invisibly within the historic envelope while preserving and rebuilding the historic elements that remained.
