Senat Hall at The Pennsylvania State University campus in Erie, Pennsylvania, was designed to do more than house students in suite arrangements. It was designed as an addition to Perry Hall to provide a physical transition from the nearby student union building to the upper campus dining and residence halls and improve pedestrian accessibility and circulation between buildings. Situated on a substantial slope between Perry Hall and the student union, the building breaks the vertical procession into more isolated steps and eases the grade, making the pathway to the upper part of the campus measurably more enjoyable. The Perry Hall renovation included a sloped roof addition to reflect that of Senat Hall, bringing cohesiveness to the space between.
