On September 4, Michael Allen-Hall, AIA, vice president; Robert Peterson, AIA, senior associate; Adair Pagnotta, NCIDQ, senior associate and director of interiors; and Shawn Layton, project manager from Noelker and Hull Associates, Inc. joined Fahrney Keedy Home & Village to celebrate the official opening of the memory support center and Adult Day Service and The Omer Long Community Center in Boonsboro, Maryland.

The 17,618-square-foot Bowman Center memory care facility, designed by Noelker and Hull, expands the existing 12 private rooms to 30 private rooms, with renovations of 12 existing private rooms and the addition of 18 new private memory care bedrooms with European showers.

The expansion includes an enclosed sky lit atrium conservatory for a year-round wander garden that emulates a European courtyard building, interior planters with resident-safe plantings, two households of residents with shared dining and private dining areas, and a salon.

The Bowman Center cares for seniors with memory impairments who are no longer capable of living independently.

“It’s quite a milestone we have reached at Fahrney Keedy,” said Steve Coetzee, president and chief executive officer of the senior-living facility “It’s the culmination of so much. It’s part of the mission since we were established in 1905 to care for seniors and vulnerable populations.”

The new two-story, 12,382-square-foot adult day care and community center includes activity areas, a kitchen and dining areas, lounge areas, a library, and a walking garden. The adult day services center is on the main floor and is geared toward seniors who remain in their homes, but aren’t able to safely live independently. It provides area seniors with a place to go when their loved ones and caregivers are at work.

The second-floor community center provides a place for Fahrney Keedy residents, their family members, and staff to gather. It also has a fitness gym, which residents and staff can use.
