We are honored to have our Easton Elementary School project recognized by the Learning By Design Fall 2023 Architectural and Interior Design Awards of Excellence program with an Outstanding Project Award.

In the heart of Easton, Maryland, the Easton Elementary School stands as a testament to innovative design, community engagement, and a commitment to creating an inspiring learning environment.

A nod to the past and a celebration of heritage, Easton Elementary School has carefully preserved the identities of the original buildings’ namesakes – educators Robert Russa Moton and William E. Dobson. The design elements pay homage to these figures and document the significant history of African American education in Easton.

Spanning 128,766 SF, the facility caters to 1,167 students from PreK to 5th grade. The designs include distinct wings for different grade levels, specialty classrooms for music, and approximately 3,000 SF of community-use space. The cafeteria, thoughtfully divided for younger and older students, exemplifies the commitment to providing an inclusive learning atmosphere.

Easton Elementary School made strides in sustainability as one of the first elementary schools in Maryland to achieve LEED v4 BD+C Gold Certification.

A blind peer-review process by a jury of education design professionals showcases Easton Elementary School as an exemplary model that decision-makers in educational facilities can learn from and aspire to emulate.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication, creativity, and collaborative effort of everyone involved in bringing Easton Elementary School to life. We look forward to inspiring future innovations in educational design and continuing to shape spaces that foster learning creativity, and community engagement.

Our firm collaborated with ACE-PA, Gipe Associates, Lorax Partnerships LLC (formerly Doo Consulting), Educational Systems Planning, and Convergent Technologies Design Group on this award-winning project.

This project is featured in the Fall 2023 Learning By Design Digital Edition.
