Noelker and Hull’s Frederick office is proud to serve as the architectural and interior design firm for Brook Lane, in conjunction with Meritus Health, for their new gymnasium and administration building in Hagerstown, Maryland. The project officially broke ground on Monday, October 6th with representatives from Meritus Health, Brook Lane, Davis Construction, and Cushman Wakefield in attendance.
Nikki Brooks, AIA, Senior Associate, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony alongside leadership from Meritus Health, Brook Lane, Davis Construction, and Cushman Wakefield. Nikki shares insights into the design’s purpose and impact, “The gymnasium, serving dual purposes as a recreational space and an assembly venue, promotes both physical health, social interaction, and a sense of community across the campus. This is especially valuable in therapeutic and educational environments where movement and socialization are key components of overall care and development,” she continues, “On the administrative side, the inclusion of modern office spaces and dedicated training areas for staff reflects a forward-thinking approach. It supports leadership effectiveness and continuous professional growth, which are essential for maintaining high standards of care and education.”
The new facility will replace the existing administrative building with a modern 11,000 SF structure that integrates both administrative offices and the gymnasium. Nikki adds, “Designing a space that supports both a psychiatric hospital and a special needs school highlights Noelker and Hull’s expertise in addressing the unique needs of vulnerable populations. It’s a testament to our deep understanding of behavioral health and special education design—two highly specialized areas within healthcare architecture.”
Noelker and Hull is honored to continue its collaboration with Meritus Health and Brook Lane, working together to create thoughtful, supportive spaces for the community. The Brook Lane Gymnasium and Administration Building is expected to be completed by August 2026.
