Featured in the Spring 2020 Environments for Aging Design Showcase are two of Noelker and Hull Associates, Inc.’s senior living projects that reflect how the clients continue to meet the growing needs of the people they serve. The annual publication features projects demonstrating innovative and creative designs for an aging population. The jury evaluated projects on innovation, community collaboration, aesthetic, and operational performance.

Fahrney Keedy Home & Village’s Memory Support addition includes a 17,500-square-foot memory care unit that expands the existing facility from 12 private rooms to 30. The space includes a conservatory, a salon, and private dining areas. Designed by Noelker and Hull, the addition provides a space that meets the needs of residents with memory care deficits. This unit affords amenities that allow for an ambience that, by its design alone, positively affects the resident’s behavior and interaction with others.

“We appreciate the attention to sustainability including the use of geothermal, zero carbon emissions, and zero noise pollution. The Winter Garden/courtyard concept is great. We appreciate finding a way for residents to always feel the sensation of being “outdoors.” The atrium provides a ton of daylighting for the residents.” ~2020 Jury

SpiriTrust Lutheran’s vision, to offer the complete continuum of services at the village by providing onsite skilled care services, was realized in the construction of The Village at Luther Ridge, a new 44,343-square-foot, 40-bed skilled care and rehabilitation center. Also designed by Noelker and Hull, the new facility promotes adaptation to the level of interaction desired by the residents through designated areas for resident and staff interactions in an effort to support and promote dignity and independence, regardless of physical and cognitive abilities.

“We applaud the efforts for energy efficiency and love the bookshelves, lighting, and area by the window in the units. The facility includes a warm and inviting lobby, attractive fireplaces, spacious resident rooms, and private nursing rooms. The households are broken down into good size number of residents and the conversation areas allow the residents to direct their amount of engagement.” ~2020 Jury
